Sunday’s Almost Here!

As most of you know, yesterday was Good Friday.  Our church service was a joint service with three other churches meeting together at our church.  The service was so meaningful, with the speaker entitling his message Today is Friday, But Sunday is a-Coming!

He apologized because he said that he had stolen the title (just the title!) from a message he had heard years ago.  The message was beautifully crafted with the point being that Good Friday originally was not that good of a day for many, including Peter and Mary, but Sunday was still to come.

Peter denied Christ three times on the original Good Friday, doing what only a few hours before he said he would “never” do (33 Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.” Matthew 26:33 NIV).  How devastated he must have been after he realized what he had done!  (75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.  Matthew 26:75 NIV).

BUT Sunday came, with the risen Christ asking Peter 3 times (to negate the three denials) “Do you love me?” and entreating Peter to “feed His sheep” (John 21:15 – 17).  Despite Peter’s mistakes on Friday, they were washed clean on Sunday!

Mary Magdalen and many of Christ’s followers lost their direction on Good Friday.  The one whom they believed was the Christ was killed!  On a cross!  With thieves!  How does this reconcile with their belief?  Friday devastated their faith, BUT Sunday was a-comin’!  Mary goes to the tomb, disillusioned, weeping (John 20:11).  Christ meets her there in the middle of her confusion and her faith is renewed, strengthened!

We all have our ‘fridays’, times where we have failed, our faith is tested, our beliefs challenged; where we have lost a loved one, lost our job, or lost our direction.  But remember…Sunday is coming!  When all will be made new and we will be strengthened, renewed, revived, restored!

LAMB of GOD
Twila Paris

YOUR ONLY SON, NO SIN TO HIDE
BUT YOU HAVE SENT HIM FROM YOUR SIDE
TO WALK UPON THIS GUILTY SOD
AND TO BECOME THE LAMB OF GOD

YOUR GIFT OF LOVE THEY CRUCIFIED
THEY LAUGHED AND SCORNED HIM AS HE DIED
THE HUMBLE KING THEY NAMED A FRAUD
AND SACRIFICED THE LAMB OF GOD

I WAS SO LOST I SHOULD HAVE DIED
BUT YOU HAVE BROUGHT ME TO YOUR SIDE
TO BE LEAD BY YOUR STAFF AND ROD
AND TO BE CALLED A LAMB OF GOD

O LAMB OF GOD SWEET LAMB OF GOD
I LOVE THE HOLY LAMB OF GOD
O WASH ME IN YOUR PRECIOUS BLOOD
TILL I AM JUST A LAMB OF GOD
