14 Days of Gratitude–Day 6

I am thankful for:
Day 1.  Jesus Christ
Day 2.  The Bible
Day 3.  My parents
Day 4.  My Grandmother
Day 5. God’s Holy Spirit

So, I had intended to be finished the 14 Days of Gratitude by Thanksgiving, but since Thanksgiving is today, I think I will have to rethink my plan.  Seeing as American Thanksgiving is a while off yet, I will continue until either I am done the 14 days or until Thanksgiving in the US.  Whew…bought myself a few more weeks!

Day 6.  My nephews, Caleb and Joshua.

Batman and Robin (Secret identities–Caleb and Josh)

The sixth thing I’m thankful for are my delightful, fabulous, hilarious, mischievous, crazy nephews!  Caleb is 7 and Josh is 4.  They are both very clever and fun.  They love superheroes and spies and Star Wars.  Yes, I have a Princess Leia costume…there was a Star Wars birthday party…anyway!

They bring love and fun to my life!  I get to imagine and run and wrestle and jump and sing and tell stories with them–such fun for an auntie who really is just a kid in an adult suit!!

I want to be their mentor.  I want them to learn to love Jesus and grow up to be like Him.  They are such precious little princes!

Thank-you, God, for my wonderful little nephews!

I could continue to praise You, God, all day for this precious gift of Yours to me!

Thank-you!

The Tigger Postulate

So…if you have been following my posts for a while you know that I love music and running BUT did you know that I am also a beloved auntie?  I have the 2 most adorable, brilliant, mischievous, delightful nephews in the universe, who (of course) are obsessed with Star Wars, Super Heros and stuffies.  As a single auntie I can go play with them whenever I choose!

One day I was visiting my boys and I was playing with the little one, who was 3 at the time, when he disappeared for a minute and came back carrying his Tigger stuffy.  He climbed in my lap and started to bounce Tigger all over the place.

Well, what do you think I did?

😉

OF COURSE, I started singing the Tigger song!

The wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is Tiggers are wonderful things.
Their tops are made of rubbers
Their bottoms are made of springs.
They’re
Bouncy,
Flouncy,
Trouncy,
Pouncy,
Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN!!!

I was dancing around the room at this point until little Josh holds his hand up to me and says, “Auntie, Auntie!  Stop singing!  Tigger can bounce without the song!”

There’s nothing like having the wind yanked out of your sails in the space between the words ‘fun’ and ‘fun’…

BUT

The Tigger Song does have something to teach us single people.

The wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is Tiggers are wonderful things.
Their tops are made of rubbers
Their bottoms are made of springs.
They’re
Bouncy,
Flouncy,
Trouncy,
Pouncy,
Fun, fun, fun, fun, FUN!!!
But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers
Is I’m the only one

Yes! I’m the only one !

Firstly, Tigger can teach us that it’s OK to be only one (ie. single).  Not only is it OK to be one/single but it is GOOD.  Paul says,

7 I wish that all of you were as I am (ie. single). But each of you has your own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.  8 Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. 1 Corinthians 7:7, 8 NIV

(Just to be sure, I’m not saying you HAVE to be single, just that it is good).

Secondly, Tigger can teach us that it’s OK to be unique, original, different, odd, weird, abnormal–whatever thoughtless words people may have called you in the past.  Your uniqueness is amazing–there is only one of you!  God didn’t make any prototypes or rough drafts, just the finished product!

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
    your works are wonderful,
    I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.  Psalm 139:13 – 16 NIV

Not only is it good to be original but Tigger shows us that we should rejoice in our uniqueness.  But the most wonderful thing about Tiggers Is I’m the only one!

The next time you allow the patterns of this world to start to erode your sense of value, just start singing the Tigger Song and remember who you are in Christ!
